I work as a project lead at Moke. Within the firm, I’m involved in a wide range of activities, including façade design, preparing presentations, 3D modelling, and visualisations. I carefully consider the underlying conceptual ideas and the impact that design choices have on factors such as accessibility, usability, and feasibility.
One of the projects I hold dear is a development of around 150 assisted living units in Nijmegen. Accessibility plays a key role in this project. Every passage within the building must be sufficiently wide, bathrooms and bedrooms must be wheelchair-accessible, and clear sightlines are an important factor. It is a challenge that demands precision and a strong focus on the needs of the user.
Architecture fascinates me because it unites grand gestures with intimate experiences. Every design decision touches on other disciplines and links the past with the future - this is precisely what makes the profession so meaningful to me.
Jelmer studied Architecture and continued his education with a Master’s in Architecture, both at Delft University of Technology, specialising in modern heritage. He gained work experience with an interior designer and completed internships in design, construction, and building consultancy.
