Ludo Grooteman (Alkmaar, 1968) obtained his propaedeutic diploma in philosophy from the University of Amsterdam in 1989. At the same time, he began his architectural design studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where he graduated in 1994. In 1997, he earned his architecture degree from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

After working at architectural firms in Amsterdam and London, he co-founded Blue Architects in 1999 with Gianni Cito and Thomas Hildebrand—an international firm with offices in Amsterdam and Zurich. In 2001, Blue Architects gained recognition by winning first prize in the Prix de Rome for Architecture. In 2007, Blue Architects Amsterdam merged with Atelier Zeinstra van der Pol to form Dok Architecten, where Ludo Grooteman served as architect, director, and co-owner until December 2011.

Ludo Grooteman remains active as an architect and urban planner. Alongside his architectural work, he has taught at various academies in the Netherlands and abroad. He was a member of the Architecture Committee of the Fund for Visual Arts, Design, and Architecture, and regularly delivers lectures. Since 2017, he has been a visiting professor at the Hochbauschule Münster.
