Keverdijk centre plan

Keverdijk is set to receive a new centre. At the heart of the original garden village, which is part of the city of Naarden, lies an outdated facilities building, a large playground, and outdated elderly housing. Moke, in collaboration with the local community, the municipality of Naarden, and Dudok Wonen, is exploring potential future developments for this area.

Collaboration
The process is unique, as the neighbourhood residents are closely involved in the planning process. They follow the design planning online and influence it through voting and providing input. More than 600 people have participated. Keverdijk is the co-creator of the plan, comprising a large playground and a strip of buildings. The playground is multifunctional, providing space for a basketball and football court, a play area, and a boules court. Additionally, there is ample space for the neighbourhood campsite, the annual fair, and other events initiated by the community.

The buildings are arranged like a patchwork carpet across Kolonel Verveerstraat and create a permeable and varied area with an abundance of greenery and a pleasant, intimate scale. The residences are a mix of apartments and single-family homes. They are slender, low-rise buildings that complement the existing garden village structure. Occasionally, the buildings feature a distinctive height accent, a nod to the central location within the neighbourhood. The crowning touch is a community hub that will directly connect to the shopping heart, including a health centre, a community centre, a youth association, a seniors’ association, and a small library. The existing mosque will receive a new building next to the community hub. Together, these functions will provide a suitable heart for the garden village of the future, and a fitting space where the neighbourhood’s strong social cohesion can thrive.
