Heinkenszand

Two four-storey apartment buildings by a park along the waterfront, flanked by eleven ground-level homes in the ‘Over de Dijk’ development area in Heinkenszand. The apartments, designed by Ludo Grooteman, offer expansive views in every direction and an appealing, varied streetscape. This is a story about flowers and blocks merging into a pleasant community.

Flowers
The apartment buildings are square in shape, with gently curving corners. These rounded edges together give the two structures the appearance of a flower. All apartments are spacious and filled with natural light, each offering views on two sides and a generous balcony. The fluid contours of the building are reflected in the undulating terrain surrounding the elevated entrance and the semi-submerged parking basement. The specially designed textured brick lends the façade a strong and robust character.

Blocks
The ground-level residences are in sharp contrast with the elegant apartment buildings. They are constructed from blocks and the windows feature sturdy wooden borders. And yet the streetscape is airy and varied. Each house is unique, with a distinct pattern of staggered floors, and brickwork varying in shade, texture, and sheen. And, thanks to the cleverly positioned garages, the linked houses have the appearance of detached villas.
